Florence Griffith Joyner (FloJo) blazed her way into national attention
with her world-record speed, her flashy, form-fitting bodysuits and
her glittering, 6-inch fingernails.
She won gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 400-meter
relay at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and is still considered the
fastest woman sprinter ever.
Florence Griffith Joyner was indeed a special runner, but as most of
you know, she died unexpectantly on September 21, 1998. What glory
she once had on earth is all gone now. And soon she will be nothing more
than a vague memory for most of us. Afterall, how often have we thought
about Florence Griffith Joyner in the last 8 years? Personally, if it wasn't for her death, she would have never crossed my mind. This message was written the same week of her death.
Yes, FloJo is gone now, but I wonder where has she gone? Did she go to
Heaven or did she go to Hell? You see, when a person dies, that
person will either go up to heaven (a wonderful place of eternal bliss),
or that person will go down to Hell (a place of eternal torment).
In order to get to Heaven and be with God, a person must be saved from their sins. That person must have repented of his or her sins,
then bow the knee and pray and ask Jesus Christ to
come into his or her heart as Lord and Savior.
Was this the case with FloJo (Florence Griffith Joyner)? Personally,
I don't know. She may have been saved, then again, maybe she wasn't.
I truly don't know. But God knows. And don't make the mistake of
believing that just because FloJo was a nice person, and a great
runner that such aatributes qualifies her for Heaven. If you think like that,
you don't know anything about God's Word.
So, What about you? Are you saved or are you lost? Could you honestly
say that you remember a time when you cried out to God and asked for
forgiveness of your sins, and accepted Jesus Christ into your heart?
Florence Griffith Joyner was in the prime of her life, but she did
not know that she would die that Monday night. She did not know that
that particular night would be the last night she would ever spend in her lovely home in Mission Viejo, California. She did not know death would come knocking at her door. She probably thought she would live to be an elderly woman. We all tend to think we will live to see old age
Listen, don't you dare think that you will live another 10 years, another 10
months, another 10 weeks, another 10 days, or another 10 minutes. Let
the death of Florence Griffith Joyner be a warning to you: "Absolutely,
positively NO ONE has a lease on life." You could put your shoes on
in the morning, and the undertaker could be pulling them off for you
in the evening.
Whoever you are reading this web page, you need to get right with God
today--not tomorrow! Today! And the only way to get right with
God is to go by the Cross at Calvary where Jesus Christ bled and died for
your sins. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life." John 3: 16.
FloJo is gone now, but you are still here. You have time to settle
up with God and make peace with Him. Do it now because if you die lost,
it'll be too late to make peace with Him while in the torments of
HELL.
